This Two Horsemen plaque is a large classical Bas Relief of two horse riders from the Parthenon Western Frieze. It is impressive at about 5 feet wide and three and one half feet high. The plaque depicts two cavalrymen in the Greater Panathenaic procession to the Acropolis. It was sculpted between c. 443 and 437 BC, most likely under the direction of Phidias. The two riders in our plaque appear to be Thracian warriors as they are wearing Thracian dress of fur cap, a patterned cloak, and high boots. The Greeks considered the Thracians barbarians, but, respected them as warriors. Most of the equestrian blocks are from the western frieze.
