Sullivan Frieze 24

This Sullivan Frieze is a beautiful Louis Sullivan Art Nouveau wall plaque. This outstanding wall art is a slightly narrower version of our framed version of Sullivan's famed design ("Sullivan Frieze - Framed 25") and is 24" in height. Mixing two or three of the two friezes as a wall decor arrangement would make a very interesting and commanding design statement.

This frieze was a noted design by the American architect Louis Henri Sullivan who is considered the "father of skyscrapers." He is considered by many as the creator of the modern skyscraper, was an influential architect and critic of the Chicago School. He was a mentor to Frank Lloyd Wright and an inspiration to the Chicago group of architects who have come to be known as the Prairie School. He is credited with coining the phrase "form follows function" which later would be taken by influential designers to imply that decorative elements, which architects call "ornament", were superfluous. However Sullivan neither thought nor designed along such dogmatic lines. While his designs could be spare and crisp, he often punctuated their plain surfaces with eruptions of lush Art Nouveau or Celtic Revival decorations like the one here. This frieze is truely a work of art.
