Sullivan Pot

The Sullivan Pot is a beautiful box planter with an elegant classic design featuring a fantastic Art Nouveau Sullivan frieze on each facing. This outstanding planter is available in two sizes.

This pot was designed by the American architect Louis Henri Sullivan who is considered the "father of skyscrapers." He is considered by many as the creator of the modern skyscraper, was an influential architect and critic of the Chicago School. He was a mentor to Frank Lloyd Wright and an inspiration to the Chicago group of architects who have come to be known as the Prairie School. He is credited with coining the phrase "form follows function" which later would be taken by influential designers to imply that decorative elements, which architects call "ornament", were superfluous. However Sullivan neither thought nor designed along such dogmatic lines. While his designs could be spare and crisp, he often punctuated their plain surfaces with eruptions of lush Art Nouveau or Celtic Revival decorations like the one which adorns our Sullivan Pot. This pot is truely a work of art.
